Camerata – Queenland’s Chamber Orchestra launches 2024

by | Oct 29, 2023 | Orchestras, Season Launch

“Every Camerata concert I have attended has left me in wonder.”  – Caroline B, audience member

Experience the wonder and joy that is Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra across four  mainstage concerts, a regional Queensland tour, and two seasons with Queensland Ballet as their Live Music Partner, with a recital series yet to be announced.

February’s opening concert sees the return of acclaimed Brisbane-based pianist and Artistic Director  of Brisbane Music Festival, Alex Raineri, to the Camerata stage for Beethoven’s bold Piano Concert  No. 1. The program also features Wagner’s sweet Siegfried Idyll and Beethoven’s thrilling Coriolan Overture, with Camerata welcoming its wind, brass, and percussion sections for this beautiful  concert.

Australian guitar virtuoso, Karin Schaupp, “one of the world’s most accomplished classically trained  guitarists” (Sydney Morning Herald) features in Camerata & Karin Schaupp: Serenade (May 2024) showcasing two exquisite pieces of music for guitar and strings. Mendelssohn’s Songs Without  Words, usually for solo piano, will be performed in a delightful new arrangement for guitar and  strings. Serenade also features Carl Vine’s Endless and Dvořák’s radiant Serenade for Strings sprinkled throughout the program.

In September, leading Australian singer/songwriter Lior returns to Camerata following the stunning  performance of Compassion in 2022. Ngapa William Cooper was born out of a rich collaboration  between composer Nigel Westlake, singer-songwriter Lior, and performer and academic Dr Lou

Bennett AM. In this very special, completely unconducted, world premiere arrangement for  chamber orchestra, Camerata and Lior once again join forces, this time with Lou Bennett, for this  “momentous” (Limelight) performance, in collaboration with Brisbane Festival.

Baroque violin virtuoso, Davide Monti, who thrilled audiences with the 2018 Camerata smash hit,  Viva Vivaldi, team ups with Camerata to uncover a labyrinth of bold, adventurous baroque music in  the final mainstage performance for 2024: Baroque Labyrinth. This will be the long-awaited return of one of Camerata’s favourite collaborators and much sought after director, soloist and chamber  musician. Davide’s playing possesses incredible freshness, where “all appears extraordinarily  spontaneous and organic”. Davide has tailor-made a beautiful and interesting program that delves  into the historical fascination the world has had with labyrinths, that reaches back to Greek  mythology and is especially vivid in the music about Ariadne in the Baroque times, featuring  Locatelli’s The Harmonic Labyrinth and other exquisite works by Handel and Bach.

As always Camerata welcomes audiences to join Camerata in the foyer after the show to meet the  musicians and have a chat.

Along with their annual regional Queensland tour in May/June, Camerata will also perform wo  seasons with Queensland Ballet as their Live Music Partner for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon

More events to be announced throughout the year.

Performing without a conductor, Camerata proudly takes full ownership over their music-making in  the spirit of chamber music, resulting in engaging, passionate, and exciting performances. Known for  innovative and adventurous programming, Camerata is one of Australia’s leading ensembles and  thrives on collaborations with artists across a range of artforms.
