Coolamon Singers | Mozart’s Thamos, King of Egypt & Musical Theatre Fan Favourites
26 October 2024 @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm AEST
$28At age twenty-three, Mozart composed the incidental music to von Gebler’s 1773 play Thamos, King of Egypt. His first venture into music for the theatre, it is a prequel to The Magic Flute. Its orchestral suite of four entr’actes has often been recorded but the full work with its stirring choruses is rarely staged.
Coolamon Singers premieres this charming operatic miniature in concert on Queensland’s Gold Coast, directed by Marco Bellasi with pianist Ayesha Gough.
Bellasi, fresh from conducting the recent sell-out concert with Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra, has matched Mozart’s theatre music with selections from Big Musicals of the 20th Century. Selections from Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and South Pacific bring themes of young love, idealism, the search for a soul mate and destiny.
Highlighting outstanding young Gold Coast singers as well an ensemble from this dynamic community choir, this is live music for all ages!
