Throughout history, composers have produced some of their liveliest and most engaging work for the Christmas season: Program includes Byrd, Josquin, Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Sweelinck, Bach, Henry Handel Richardson, Michael Easton and David Willcocks.

Mendelssohn’s great oratorio Op.70, set in the original English, for soloists, choir and orchestra is rarely performed, although many of its movements are well loved, stand alone classics – Lift thine eyes; He watching over Israel slumbers not; Oh rest in the Lord; Oh for the wings of a dove. One hour and forty minutes.

To celebrate Palestrina’s 500th birthday, his well-loved Missa Aeterna Christi Munera is sung alongside lesser known works, sacred and secular. The program encompasses music by his teachers, du Fay and Josquin and his students. The program includes the Miserere by Palestrina’s most famous student, Allegri.

Gordon Kerry’s newly-commissioned requiem, inspired by Tomàs Luis de Victoria’s stunning unaccompanied requiem, takes the form of interpolations between an exquisite array of Renaissance choral music, sacred and secular.

About The Author

Pepe Newton

Pepe is classikON's Managing Director. She is an avid concert-goer and self confessed choir nerd, regularly performing and touring with no less than 5 different choirs to countries ranging from Poland to Cuba over the last few years. Through her board positions in choirs and her role with classikON she is actively involved in the exciting Australian art music scene, including the promotion and commissioning of new Australian music. Running classikON presents a perfect opportunity for Pepe to pair her love of classical music with her ‘real life’ qualifications in business management and administration.
