Acacia Quartet performing works from their CD with Jane Sheldon ‘North+South’ were joined by two works by Lyle Chan.
A perfect way to finish the week.
Jane’s beautiful voice sang through a range of traditional, arranged, and new works, that washed the stress of the week away. Read our review of their CD North+South.
These songs were interluded by the world premiere of Lyle Chan’s Night Vigil. Before Acacia Quartet performed it, Lyle Chan spoke about the work eloquently and beautifully. While it is excellent to understand the story behind a work, what makes them even more amazing is when they have the power to stand on their own, which is what Night Vigil did. It was difficult to not be swept away by the emotion of the composition. You could feel the love, passion, sadness and warmth of Lyle Chan’s friendship with Bruce Brown.
We were then joined by the performers for a drink and cheese after the concert.
I walked home dreamily, like I was already well into the weekend – which is a lovely way to feel on a Friday night. I also felt a need to call everyone close to me & tell them how special they were.
