Yellow Lounge was created by the “Yellow Label” Deutsche Grammophon in the Berlin Club scene, as a way to hear classical music in a relaxed and cool atmosphere. It was launched in Sydney in 2012 with Noah Stewart.
This time we ventured to East Sydney and heard the talented sounds of Andreas Ottensamer while standing, having a drink, and lovely canapés. There were DJs before and afterwards. It was casual and friendly with great music.
Andreas is part of a musical family, so it was normal for him to have music always there. He said he was surprised to find out that other families didn’t have that.
He started learning piano at 4, then cello at 10, and changed to clarinet at 14. His diverse experience has resulted in an interesting selection of works he feels strongly connected to for his CD Portraits. The CD starts with Gerswin’s Prelude No 1 which he performed and apologised to his accompanist for changing it to feature the clarinet.
The CD also includes Aaron Copeland’s Clarinet Concerto, Claude Debussy’s La Fille Aux Cheveux De Lin arranged by Arthur Benjamin, Amy Beach Berceuse, and Louis Spohr’s Clarinet Concerto No 1.
As a member of Berliner Philharmoniker, performing with family and a growing solo career he said he is trying to find balance.
