Australia Quartet shine at The Independent Theatre, North Sydney

by | Apr 21, 2013 | Ambassador thoughts

I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Australia Quartet concerts at UTS Bon Marche Studio, but the acoustics don’t do justice to their ability – which could be heard in this wonderful short pre-dinner Saturday concert at The Independent Theatre in North Sydney.

The concert started with a wonderful performance of Ross Edwards’ Emerald Crossing (they also performed it on ABC Classic a few days earlier and you can listen to it online). Emerald Crossing is a very emotional work and their performance pulled me away from my day (which was filled with work, so it was quite an achievement).

It was also excellent to hear the Camille Saint-Saens Piano Quartet no. 1 in B flat major Op 41. A rarely heard piece and they played it excellently.

I love watching Veronique Serret (violin) perform. Her whole body produces the music and it is quite mesmerising.

About The Author

Kate Tribe

Kate’s passion for classical music was fostered by her friendship with her grandfather, Ken Tribe. What he did so well to share his passion was to impart a new piece of information each time they went to a concert together and to encourage gradual knowledge building about one of the things closest to his heart. When not working with classikON she is, cross stitching or watching cricket.
