Resonance: The Art of the Piano Trio

by | Aug 26, 2013 | Ambassador thoughts

It was my first opportunity to hear Resonance at Christ Church in Lavender Bay and there were several highlights.

Firstly, the view! While Chris Cartner and I waited for the crowd to arrive we chatted and stared at the wonderful view – a great start to the end of week de-stress. Part of this chatter was about the best time for concerts. I wondered if Friday 6pm was a good time, but was proved wrong when people of all ages flowed in. I was manning the door and talked to the crowd as they arrived, with one saying:

I left work in the city and came to the concert on my way home. It is perfect timing and people working in North Sydney could easily come after work also.

The concert started with Brahms Piano Trio no.1 in B major, op.8, then Chris welcomed everyone and spoke about the music before they performed Piazzolla Oblivion & Autumn (from Seasons).

Ursula Nelius (violin), Paul Stender (cello) & Chris Cartner (piano) performed excellently in this short concert transporting the crowd from the stress of the week. Instead of disappearing after the concert, they wandered up to the back, poured wine and chatted with the crowd before heading out for dinner.

It was a friendly and musically delightful start to the weekend. I highly recommend hearing the same program at Sydney Philharmonia Rehearsal Room at Millers Point on September 13 or Resonance with Ella Brinch (Viola) at Christ Church in Lavender Bay on October 25 (information on classikON soon).

Resonance will be performing this concert again on Sept 13, 7pm at Sydney Philharmonia Rehearsal Room at Millers Point. Tickets can be bought with us online or at the door.

About The Author

Kate Tribe

Kate’s passion for classical music was fostered by her friendship with her grandfather, Ken Tribe. What he did so well to share his passion was to impart a new piece of information each time they went to a concert together and to encourage gradual knowledge building about one of the things closest to his heart. When not working with classikON she is, cross stitching or watching cricket.
