Selby & Friends 2024 Season showcases artists who have made significant and long-standing contributions to the Australian musical landscape, in some cases over many decades. These brilliant artists are incredibly special, not only because they are good friends and colleagues, but also because they have made the art of making music such a truly wonderful adventure. Hear Artistic Director Kathryn Selby AM introduce the season here. One such towering ensemble, guest artists in 2024, is the world renowned Goldner String Quartet who personally requested to be included in Selby & Friends ’24 as part of their farewell season. The programs for 2024 exemplify the variety and diversity of chamber music audiences have come to love and expect from a Selby & Friends season – from duos, trios, quartets and quintets by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, to Brahms, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and on to Bartók, Shostakovich, Turina, Vasks and much more.
Selby & Friends has been described as presenting concerts that are “absolutely superb” “blockbuster performances,” with Selby having “excellent taste in friends”.
Selby & Friends was created by Kathryn Selby, AM in 2007, and her guest artists include many of the finest solo and ensemble performers from Australia and around the world. The series is widely considered “world class” and of “the highest possible level of performance” with many hailing Ms Selby as amongst the finest of Australian artists, as well as an “entrepreneurial force” on the Australian music scene.
