I don’t normally read the liner notes of CD’s but I felt the need to know more about Sally Whitwell, she’s such an intriguing character. Her approach to music seems to be as eclectic as her personal style. She composes, conducts and performs music in the classical arena, cabaret and choirs and teachers school and university students.
The album title perfectly represents the feel of this album; she has compiled a love letter to a collection of musical characters she admires in cinema. This album feels very cinematic and familiar but it is broken up by pieces played on a toy piano (pictured on the cover).
The familiarity of the pieces in this album by no means makes it boring, Sally’s technical proficiency and interpretation of each piece is wonderful and makes it required listening in my classical music catalogue. I highly recommend this album as it is warm and effervescent and will take you a beautiful musical journey through a familiar character filled landscape.
